Directions to plot and tree tag:
From Shorts Knob overlook, go 1mi. S on Parkway. A ~50cm Pinus strobus is on R at road edge with a large cut white oak just upslope. On L if road, downhill is an outbuilding. Park here, just N of Parkway intersection with Thomas Farm Road. Go upslope 18o, ~80m to witness tree. Pink flagging on tree and pink pin flag in conduit. Tagged tree is a Quercus alba of 91 cm dbh with tag #432. Conduit is at a bearing of 328 degrees and 1.5 m from tree.
Plot location was selected in the field by DNH Ecologists.
SW-facing slope with montane oak-hickory, large diameter (1m) Quercus alba and Carya ovalis. Small area of mature forest on a slope and knob that is otherwise former pasture and dominated by tulip poplar. Sampled forest has rocky soils and surficial geology mapped as amphibolite.
